Hi there! Welcome! My name is Dan Satorius and I am the founder and owner of Chess Adventure! I love teaching the beautiful game of chess! I grew up in California playing baseball, soccer, and surfing my favorite break at San Onofre! While attending UC Santa Barbara and backpacking through the Los Padres National Forest, my college roommate taught me chess. I found the 1,500-year-old game fascinating and studied it for a few years, reaching an online rating of 2200+ and a peak USCF rating of 1790. I love reading chess game collections from the masters of the 20th century such as Alekhine, Botvinnik, Kasparov, & Fischer. While teaching high school, I started a chess program, which led to hosting big tournaments & traveling to competitions. It was a lot of fun! I love how chess can get kids excited about learning, and it’s also a great supplement to a child's education through its development of critical thinking, creative thinking, & problem solving.
I love that chess has survived for 1,500 years. I love its rich history. I love the mix of contradictions, complexities, logic, & creativity all dancing together over 64 squares. And I love teaching chess to kids! I love seeing their enthusiasm & confidence grow. I love seeing that light turn on when they begin to grasp concepts and start critically thinking about positions while generating their own independent conclusions. Chess has so many amazing qualities and I'm excited to see your kids learn & develop along their journey of chess discovery.
