Hello! Welcome! My name is Dan Satorius and I am the founder and owner of Chess Adventure! My passion for chess began during my college years at University of California, Santa Barbara, when a roommate introduced me to the 1,500-year-old game. Fascinated by its depth and creativity, I immersed myself in studying classic games from legendary masters such as Alexander Alekhine, Mikhail Botvinnik, Garry Kasparov, and Bobby Fischer. The more I studied, the more I discovered the beauty of the game, while reaching an online rating of 2200+ and a peak USCF rating of 1790.

While teaching high school, I founded a chess program that hosted major tournaments and I traveled with students to competitions throughout California. I believe chess can be a powerful supplement to a child’s education, helping develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and creative skills that extend far beyond the board.

With decades of experience in chess education, I continue sharing my love and enthusiasm for the game, including its rich history and its mix of complexities, logic, strategy, calculation, & creativity all woven together over 64 squares. And I love teaching chess! I love seeing my students’ enthusiasm & confidence grow. I love seeing that light turn on when they begin grasping concepts and start critically thinking about positions while generating their own independent conclusions. I also love the moment when they begin seeing the incredible depth and beauty in chess. Chess has so many amazing qualities and I'm excited to see your kids learn & develop along their journey of chess discovery.
